Re-Sponging Iberia: Creating Flood- and Drought-Resilient Landscapes<\/strong><\/h4>

Across the Iberian Peninsula, river basins are increasingly shaped by prolonged drought and\nsudden flooding. This workshop explores how basin actors can move toward landscape-scale\nwater retention\u00a0-\u00a0strengthening infiltration, restoring soil storage capacity, and coordinating\nagriculture, restoration and water management to strengthen long-term resilience.<\/p>

Rios sem Fronteiras: Que solu\u00e7\u00f5es para uma gest\u00e3o partilhada entre Espanha e Portugal? <\/strong><\/h4>

The workshop will be set in the context of the Tour\u00f5es stream, a basin shared between Spain\nand Portugal, and will aim to develop and gather solid proposals for the technical clauses and\nspecifications of a river contract. It will be based on a methodology designed to foster a\ncollaborative environment, where participants will be invited to share experiences and develop\nrobust proposals for actions to be implemented in a transboundary river, encouraging reflection\non how to harmonize the differences inherent to existing governance processes.<\/p>

The workshop addresses urban river restoration from a social perspective, focusing on\nparticipation and communication as key factors in project development. Based on a comparative\nanalysis of real cases \u2014with diverse outcomes\u2014 patterns, recurring mistakes, and good\npractices in engaging with citizens and local stakeholders will be identified. The session\nincludes a participatory dynamic aimed at actively involving attendees, promoting the sharing of\ntheir own experiences and the collective construction of knowledge.<\/p>\n

\u00abFree Flowing Rivers\u00bb: metodolog\u00eda, evaluaci\u00f3n y priorizaci\u00f3n<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The workshop will be structured in two distinct blocks. In the first part (60 min), the European\nmethodology for assessing free-flowing rivers will be presented, along with its application in\nSpain, covering both the conceptual approach and the progress and challenges in its\nimplementation.<\/p>\n

The second part (90 min) will be participatory and will focus on identifying and discussing key\ncriteria for prioritising interventions in river stretches that do not meet free-flowing river\nconditions. The different steps of the process (diagnosis, selection of measures, planning) will\nbe addressed, exploring existing indicators, methodological gaps and practical limitations. The\ndiscussion will be based on specific case studies and will aim to integrate different technical and\nterritorial perspectives.<\/p>\n
